JOB DESCRIPTION
- FULL TIME
Coordinates all components of the Women's Chaplain Program. Works with the Men's Chaplain in coordinating the chaplain program(s) for residential and commuter students.
RESPONSIBLITIES
- Coordinates the Chaplain Program through mentoring, training, and development of Graduate Assistants, Head Chaplains and Chaplains through interviewing, internship, hiring, fall orientation, weekly meetings, monthly meetings, retreats, etc.
- Disciples female Head Chaplains and Chaplains. Educates Chaplains concerning the university counseling policy including defining confidentiality and referrals. Implements a consistent strategy of accountability for Chaplains via weekly reports and Head Chaplains.
- The Women's Chaplain Coordinator requires Sodexo bucks that will be covered by the budget for the following:
- Ensuring a positive experience and atmosphere at all university eating establishments.
- Meeting and eating with student leaders.
- Meeting and eating with students
- Conducts meetings with students. Provides one-on-one pastoral care, mentoring, and leadership. Provides subsequent follow-up where needed. Will keep the Director of Spiritual Life and Associate Director of Spiritual Life and the Deans of Student Development apprised of situations requiring further intervention.
- The Women’s Chaplain Coordinator will serve as a Confidential Office for students at ORU.
- The Women’s Chaplain Coordinator serves on several committees on campus to further student growth and development (including but not limited to the Multi-Ethnic and International Relationships Committee, etc.) and chairs committees when asked (Overcomer of the Year, etc.).
- The Chaplain Program budget, including scholarships for Chaplains and Head Chaplains, is managed by the Women’s Chaplain Coordinator.
- During Chapel, the Women’s Chaplain Coordinator will oversee seating of guests. Supervises student leaders for ushering and post-Chapel worship. The Women’s Chaplain Coordinator provides a pastoral care component in response to student need and lifestyle concerns for the Chaplain Program.
- Special Events responsibilities: Plans Chaplain Program events such as Head Chaplain Retreat, Recharge, etc. and helps in various events across campus (Golden Eagle Orientation, Fall Revival, ORU Christmas, RenewU, etc.).
- Establishes, revises and maintains departmental manual, yearly calendar, and job descriptions of staff and student leaders involved in the Chaplain Program. Attends all Student Life Staff Meetings and ensures all administrative responsibilities are done in a timely fashion.
- Meets regularly with the Director of Spiritual Life and Associate Director of Spiritual Life.
- Meets regularly with the Student Life staff.
- Directly oversees the planning, coordination, and management of Church Rush.
- Assists with the Emerge Leadership Experience as Director of Spiritual Life and Associate Director of Spiritual Life have need.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in a related field required. A thorough understanding of the University is helpful.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
A minimum of one (1) year related experience required. (Ex: Working with youth, working in a college and/or university setting, etc.)
Software: Candidates should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel. Familiarity with Power Point a plus, otherwise incumbent must be willing to learn.
- Must be able to articulate thoughts well for the purpose of effectively communicating information one-on-one, in groups or in large public settings.
- Excellent interpersonal skills are paramount for effective communication with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Has a displayed ability to be a self-starter and works well both as a team member and independently.
- Good reading, mathematical, oral, written, grammatical, editing, and proofreading skills are a must.
- Must be able to maintain organization within a busy office environment.
- Must have the ability to handle the stress associated with meeting deadlines.
- Must have the ability to exercise diplomacy when confronted with difficult questions or situations.
- Must be able to exercise sound judgment regarding organizational and departmental regulations, procedures, and policies.
- Maintains a professional demeanor at all times especially for the purpose of receiving and responding to inquiries and transmitting information.
- Quickly establishes and maintains rapport with students, faculty, university staff, administration and the community at large. Works cooperatively with a variety of personalities.
- Maintains confidentiality of information with regards to the nature of information shared and made available to this position.
- Keeps the Dean for Student Development & Campus Ministry appraised of any and all situations that might be sensitive in nature, might require intervention and/or has potential for shedding a negative light on the university.
- Must accept and be openly supportive of the purposes and goals associated with Oral Roberts University.
- Maintains compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), policy, Title IX policy and the procedures.
