JOB DESCRIPTION
- FULL TIME
The Spirit Coordinator develops, directs, and coaches ORU's Co-Ed Cheerleading Squad and Mascot.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepares the co-ed spirit squad for camp, basketball season and national competition by coordinating and choreographing routines. Coaches the mascot for basketball season and appearances.
- Teaches proper dance, stunt and tumbling techniques and emphasizes safety at all times in execution.
- Acquires estimates for purchases and reviews available budget for purchases, camps, uniforms, contract labor and scholarships. Process check requisitions and purchase orders via Finance system. Projects income from fundraising efforts. Organizes, balances and keeps financial records with regard to camp, fundraising, nationals, etc. Maintains spreadsheets of individual students' funds collected towards camp and nationals. Makes vault deposits for funds collected. Submits all financial reports to supervisor. Meets regularly with supervisor.
- Serves as mentor and model to the spirit squad members.
- Sets a program of physical fitness training for the squad and holds them accountable to performing it.
- Develops and maintains relationship with Athletic Department staff. Works to support the men's and women's basketball programs with excellent performances and maximum crowd participation.
- Accompanies and supervises squad on all road trips; may drive company vehicles to event. Ensures proper spending of travel monies and provides all documentation required for monies.
- Regularly checks voice mail and email messages and responds within a timely fashion.
- Organizes tryouts and facilitates selection of new squad members.
- Works with HPER department to ensure squad members are meeting class requirements.
- Initiates requisitions and other written requests (such as requests for excuses) as needed for events and purchases.
- Coordinates appearances at events requested other than games
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
Requires a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
- Requires 2-3 years of experience in coaching cheerleading
- Must have ability to work with college age students, to coach and mentor, and knowledge and ability in cheerleading.
- Requires excellent leadership, communication, managerial, mathematical, and planning skills.
- Computer skills should include MS Office products experience.
