POSITION OVERVIEW
- FULL-TIME


PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The employee performs cataloging duties, physical processing of library materials, evaluation of gift books, and retrieval and return of items to the Annex.

RESPONSIBILITIES


  1. CATALOGING: a) Download shares cataloging records. b) Maintain ORU monographic records to give accurate information to library patrons and staff. c) Create item, holding for specified materials. d) Assist in quality control of online public access catalog.
  2. PHYSICAL PROCESSING: a) Affix and tape or glue labels. b) Stamp with date and property stamp. c) Security strip appropriate items. d) Tape book jackets on appropriate items. e) Hand-write call number, barcode number and ORU on non-print media. f) Affix barcode if needed. g) Affix dots on appropriate materials. h) Remove old labels as necessary. i) Compare item with holdings record for accuracy.
  3. GIFT BOOKS: a) Sort and remove any format not retained in current collection, i.e. vhs and audio cassette tapes. b) Complete a duplicate check for each item against current collection noting quantity, location and number of uses. c) Prepare for perusal by collection development personnel. s) Return or donate rejected materials. e) Catalog and process items to be added to collection.
  4. NEW MATERIALS: a) Open and verify with packing slip. b) Prepare for perusal by collection development personnel. c) Apply book covers to paperback books. d) Catalog and process items.
  5. PERIODICALS: a) Check-in on Sierra. b) Affix property label, security strip and date stamp. c) Distribute to proper location or personnel. d) Pull previous issues according to holdings record. e) Maintain shelf tags and labels. f) Report missing or late issues to be claimed.
  6. BINDERY: a) Pull issues to be bound at appropriate time. b) Prepare bindery slips. c) Prepare items to send to bindery. d) Box items to ship. e) When bound periodicals return from bindery, add the, to the collection.
  7. ANNEX: a) Retrieve and return items when requested by patrons on a rotating schedule. b) Back shift in the main area for proper spacing and to balance the space. c) general upkeep of the space.
  8. MISCELLANEOUS TASKS: a) Distribute Library mail for the department. b) General cleaning (dust, vacuum, empty trash and recycle cans, refrigerators in breakroom, etc.) c) Assist with the seasonal decorations in the library. d) All other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS


EDUCATION:

Requires a high school diploma or GED. Prefer two years of college or business school.
